Anyone close to me or any Deviants I've spoken with know in what high regard I hold Beksinski. He was a man of true morbid brilliance, only painting what his heart asked of him, never for the public, never for fame.
He stayed humble and hardworking, even after he became world-reknowned. He has declined awards and medals, choosing to live in isolation from the Polish art scene, defying public expectations, and shunning labeling of any kind. He taught us that it's about form, not content, all while being unique in his technique, fusing the traditional with the modern, but never really calling on either of the two directly.
I'm not going to go into a monologue about "how fucked up his death was" and "oh what a great loss this is to the fantasy/surrealism scene" (though he never filed himself under categories) because I find that blatant missing of the point to be disrespectful, but I will say this:
Rest in peace, you grim old pole, you lived and died a death of perfect irony, and hey, Happy Birthday.

Forget the truth. It lacks lyricism.
